AUTOMATIC DETECTION OF TRAIN DRIVERS FALLING ASLEEP. THE SYSTEM IS BASED ON BLINKING EYE CONTROL AND GAZE DIRECTION ANALYSIS.

THE SYSTEM PURPOSE:

The system does analyze eye blinking pattern to detect symptoms of the driver falling asleep. Tracking set of two infrared video cameras is employed to control person's head position and movements. This system does analyze stereo image of the person's face in any light conditions and securely tracks his eyes blinking on the picture regardless of head position and movements.
Further analysis of the eye picture provides data on eyelid closure degree and gaze direction (provided the eye is open). Criteria of driver's falling asleep have been defined with 0,996 reliability confirmed by laboratory testing.

  • The system steadily tracks locomotive driver's (vehicle driver's) face and reliably detects images of his/her eyes and mouth.
  • The system steadily detects locomotive driver's (vehicle driver's) gaze direction.
  • Criteria of engine driver's (vehicle driver's) falling asleep is defined and based on his blinking pattern.
